Last weekend the 4 nations polocrosse cup took place at the “Dop heets Del” in Kootwijkerbroek, Holland. The “best” players from France, Germany, Norway and Holland played against each other in sunny Kootwijkerbroek. This as a preparation for the World Cup in 2011 in the UK.
Exciting games were played, starting with the first game on Saturday France vs Germany. It was immediately clear that the Germans had a very strong men’s section who played as a real team and their no.1 player Max Scheller played brilliant and scored most of the goals for the Germans. But also the German ladies section played strong and played as a real team. Their defense against the strong Henson horses was good. continue reading…

The Netherlands, July 2009
Polocrosse Vereniging Nederland (PVN) / Dutch Polocrosse Association (DPCA)

It’s been two years since the latest update of the Dutch Polocrosse Association. Throughout these years a lot has happened. We, the board, thought it was time to replace the old information for new.

The membership has increased enormously. From only 15 members in 2007, to 45 members in 2009. This is caused by decreasing the contribution for the membership, and by Dutch polo players getting an interest in polocrosse. In the Netherlands, polocrosse is played in four different regions nowadays; South-West, Mid-Netherlands, North-East and in the North. continue reading…

In 2008 de number of members doubled, caused by decreasing the contribution and a number of polo players who were getting interested in the sport. Polocrosse is played in 4 different regions in Holland; South-west, Middle, East and North.

The board of the dutch polocrosse association decided to do things different to promote the sport. In the years before we have done 100 of demo’s and clinics; everybody liked the sport, but was not keen enough to become a member. That is why we decided to organize 3 tournaments on the different regions in Holland; to do locale promotion of the sport by inviting local media (newspapers, television) and promote the sport to locale horse riders to participate the tournament. continue reading…

Polocrosse Holland – history

Since 2005 The Dutch Polocrosse Association is official. It started with former South Africans Richard and Martine Griffiths who introduced polocrosse in 2003 at their stable. Everybody was wondering what they were doing with that net-stick-thing and the rubber ball. But after trying to pick a ball up and play a bit, riders got hooked to it and polocrosse was born in the middle of Holland! Through an internet-horse-forum they contacted other people who got enthusiastic for polocrosse and created an internet homepage which proved an important step in developing polocrosse in Holland. Peter Cross from the UK Pennine club found the webpage and invited us to the Pennine tournament in May 2005. From this first sighting of real chukkas, Dutch inspiration grew to develop polocrosse in Holland. At the beginning we didn’t have a field to play at, only an inside arena. Holland is so crowed that the farmers use every part of there land and don’t want that to be destroyed by galloping horses. continue reading…

Introduction
The Dutch Polocrosse Association was founded august 2005. Richard and Martine Griffiths started en made contact with Jouke and Rob Huisman, Thomas Bakker and Fleur Bartels. Their initial training ground was in Bennekom, near Wageningen. Here is where still the national trainings take place. Gradually Polocrosse in Holland attracted more people. The starting group was reinforced by Marieke Smallegange, Marja van den Boogaard, Florien Luitse and Willemijn Schipper. Berend, Marjan, Nicky and many others followed and are playing frequently or incidentally. Unfortunately Richard and Martine emigrated to Australia July 2006. But this did not stop the evolution of Polocrosse in Holland. The international contacts with Peter Cross (Pennine Polocrosse Club), Shelley King, Jason Webb, The French from the Espace Equestre Henson, the Germans from Hannover, Marie Schuster from Germany, Dutch Anja from Paris, Belgium Sophie Deurinckx are valuable and very much appreciated. continue reading…
