Review:

263124_10150212817307294_540037293_6879427_4343669_nOkay so we completely failed to deliver up to date scores, match reports or breaking news during the competition, mainly because our entire editorial team was either helping run the event or because they were slightly drunk (editor’s note: mainly the former but definitely the latter on the final night!). It will be a very different story for South Africa 2015 where we intend to just go and report live from the pitch-side for each match, we might even do some online streaming.

The World Cup’s website has got all the results and final placings and so the next best thing we thought we could do is write a review of the event, the matches, the teams, the horses and anything else we couple think of! So here goes: Continue reading »

Firstly I would just like to reiterate what i said at the IPC meeting, thank you to all the countries for coming and competing and putting up with the various problems which happened both before and during the event. Also a massive thank you to the Irish Polocrosse Association and their members for sending horses over to play, without which we would have not have had so many good horses in the pools. sa-winners-2011-wcSouth Africa captured the Polocrosse World Cup title for the first time when they defeated neighbours Zimbabwe in the final at the Onley Grounds Equestrian Centre near Rugby in the United Kingdom on Sunday.

Both teams were undefeated heading into the final and both had beaten Australia, who had previously never lost a game at the World Cup, which was held Down Under in the first two editions in 2003 and 2007. Continue reading »

South Africa has taken out the 2011 Polocrosse World Cup title after beating Zimbabwe in the final in Warwickshire at the weekend.

Zimbabwe fought to the bitter end in the Two Rivers Technology sponsored event, but South Africa played brilliantly in the last few chukkas to build the lead and eventually win 29-18.

The English weather managed to provide some unfamiliar conditions for the two African countries contesting the final with some heavy rain showers making some parts of the pitch into mud which tested the skills of the players and the horses to the limit. Continue reading »

We feel at this point that a special mention must go to the little skewbald umpire pony who has done such a sterling job over the past week and is a favourite of all who have ridden him. He has stood like a rock for every throw-in, kept up with the play of horses much bigger and faster than he, and has often been called into service where another horse will not stand. He is best summed up in the overheard words of umpire Wayne Henning into today’s IC game: “This is the best umpire pony ever – he’s so comfy!” Continue reading »
