Polocrosse is a fantastic horse sport that the whole family can enjoy. Polocrosse is also a truly Australian sport, being developed in this Country back in 1938. The Samford club was formed in 1992 by five families that saw a need for a polocrosse club in the Brisbane area. Tansey Polocrosse Club Inc

Polocrosse has been played at Tansey a number of times since the game commenced. The original teams commenced play in the middle of last century, then again in the 70s and 80s. So 2004 was the third time in polocrosse’s short history, that teams have formed to do battle in this exciting team sport.Tansey is located 18km north of Goomeri on the Burnett Highway. The playing fields are bounded by picturesque Boonara Creek. Many of the original blue gums are still in place as they would have been on the two previous occasions that polocrosse was played here. The Polocrosse Association of Western Australia (P.A.W.A.)

Polocrosse was first played in Australia in 1939, but it wasn’t until 1949 that it was introduced to Western Australia (WA). Bob Russell, of Kojonup, first saw the game at the Sydney Easter Show and after acquiring some racquets and balls, he returned to WA to form the first club at Kojonup. An exhibition game was staged there in 1950 in front of 200 spectators.

The Polocrosse Association of Western Australia (P.A.W.A.) was formed in 1951 with the first carnival that same year at Kojonup. The State was split into 3 Zones in 1952 : Northern, Great Southern and South West. Then, in 1956, the PAWA affiliated with the Polocrosse Association of Australia. Currently, Great Southern, South West, Central, Eastern and Midwest (formerly Northern) are the 5 Zones of the State.

In 1980, the Capel club was the host of the first National Championships to be played in WA. 1994 was the next time the National Championships came to WA with Walkaway being the hosting club. The National Championships are played every 2 years on a rotational basis around the seven States and Territories.

The polocrosse season starts in the midwest part of the State in July and finishes in the southern part of the State in December. Carnivals are full weekend affairs with all grades from A Grade to Sub Juniors competing for trophies. Small, non-trophy “One-dayers” or “24 Hour” carnivals are held for the benefit of new players, new horses or people just “having a go”. These are organised by the individual clubs as required.

At present over 4,500 members – a wonderful mix of male and female members of all ages, from Juniors to Veterans from all walks of life who belong to over 150 registered clubs participating in the sport throughout Australia.

Accredited Coaching Scheme

Established in 1985 in conjunction with the Australian Coaching Council and The Australian Sports Commission.

All coaching is administered by a National Coaching Committee comprising the State Coaching Directors under the Chairmanship of a National Coaching Director who meet regularly to monitor the coaching programs throughout Australia and in each State.

Accredited Umpiring System

A high priority has always been given to safety for both horses and players through a well organised umpiring system.

All umpiring is administered by a National Umpiring Committee comprising the State Chief Umpires who meet under the Chairmanship of the Australian Chief Umpire.

Elite Camp

We work with the Australian Institute of Sport in providing our International Level Players with the opportunity of attending the Institute before participating in International Level Competition.

Risk Management Manual

We adopt world’s best practice in risk management to support and enhance activities in all areas of our organization and ensure the risk management is an integral part of all our decision making processes.

The Australian Institute of Sport

The Australian Sports Commission recognises the Polocrosse Association of Australia as a National Sporting Organization. We receive funding to secure:

1. Excellence in sports performance at the Elite level; enabling Polocrosse to compete at an international level and retain our standing as the Worlds Best.
2. Sport Development – to ensure Polocrosse has a sports system that supports and offers improved participation at a local/club level.

Ursprünglich stammt dieser Sport aus Australien, wo er seit Ende der 30er Jahre entwickelt wurde. Inzwischen wird Polocrosse auch international gespielt und setzt sich in immer mehr Ländern als ernstzunehmende Sportart durch.
Polocrosse ist eine Kombination von Polo und Lacrosse, ein Teamsport zu Pferde. Ziel ist es, mit einem polocrosse racquet, an dessem Ende ein Netz befestigt ist, den Spielball aufzunehmen und sich gegenseitig zuzuspielen, um ihn im gegnerischen Tor unterzubringen.
Jedes Team besteht aus 6 Reitern, von denen jeweils 3 gegeneinander spielen. Jeder Reiter darf während eines Wettkampfes nur ein Pferd reiten. Ein Team kann aus weiblichen und männlichen Reitern unterschiedlichen Alters bestehen. Die Zusammensetzung der Teams erfolgt nach unterschiedlichem Niveaus, die die einzelnen Spieler erreicht haben. Es gibt 4 unterschiedliche Schwierigkeitsgerade.
Ein Spiel besteht aus 6 – 8 Spielabschnitten, den chukkas ,die jeweils 8 Minuten dauern. Jeweils nach einem Spielabschnitt werden Teammitglieder und Pferde ausgetauscht. Die jeweils spielenden Teams bestehen aus je einem Angreifer Spieler Nr. 1, einem Feldspieler Spieler Nr. 2 und einem Verteidiger Spieler Nr. 3.
Das Spielfeld (146,5 m lang und 55 m breit ) ist in 3 Abschnitte unterteilt in eine goal scoring area vor jedem Tor und der Centre Area, dem Mittelfeld.
Um ein Tor zu erzielen muss der Spieler Nr. 1 den Ball von der goal scoring area aus direkt durch die Torpfosten am Ende des Spielfeldes werfen.
